I hardly know where to start, but this week didn’t turn out anywhere close to what I’d though it would be. It all started on Monday when I went with my husband to see our PCP. While we were sitting there, the dr. looked at me and told me I didn’t look well. He immediately had his nurse put me on the schedule with my husband so he could see me too. They took my temp, yep I had a fever. Next they took my blood pressure, that was good but my heart rate was extremely elevated and my oxygen rate was dropping. Since it had only been 12 days since I’d had my COVID shot, the dr. wanted me to get a rapid COVID test. All sounds simple right? Guess what, it wasn’t.
The first place we went to was completely out of COVID tests. So hubby and I decide to pull into a parking lot and start making calls to see where I could get it done that day. The reason the dr. wanted the test back so quickly was that if I were to be positive he could get me admitted to the hospital and started on IV meds immediately. So we checked CVS, Walgreen, both were no. We called the hospital and were told that they could only do it if I was having a procedure done. They did send me over to a woman in Marketing that told me she’d see what she could do and would call me back. In the meantime, we call the health department and they give us two places to try in two different cities. The first place we go to does the tests until 3, this was now 1:30, but the person that does the tests had left for the day. We are now going on 2 hours of trying to find someplace. We go to the next place the health department gave us and yes they do the test but won’t take insurance for it and it would be $177. So, resigned to my fate I went back out to sit in the car to wait for them to take me. While sitting there, the hospital marketing lady calls me back and tells me if I can be at this certain urgent treatment center by 3:45, they would squeeze me in. And guess what, they took my insurance!
So, at 3:45 I was tested for COVID. The nurse promised that I would get a call by 7:30. She delivered on her promise. No I didn’t not have COVID but I did have a severe respiratory infection. I had all the COVID symptoms except for two of them, so I was very concerned but thankful that wasn’t what it was. This respiratory infection has thrown me for a loop. I’m exhausted all the time. I rest but I don’t really sleep. Today I have the internal shakes and can’t hardly concentrate. I haven’t been able to read one word all week. I’m hoping this is completely gone by next week because I see my oncologist on Wednesday and I really want to finish my books because they all are pretty good to this point.
Hope your week was better, let me know how you’re doing.
